Anshul Kamboj Registers Historic 10-Wicket Feat In Ranji Trophy
Haryana fast bowler Anshul Kamboj registered his name in the record books on Friday. He became the third bowler to take all 10 wickets in an innings in the Ranji Trophy. Bowling against Kerala on the third day of the fifth-round match in Lahli, Kamboj destroyed Kerala's top order. He achieved this feat by dismissing all the bowlers who scored four half-centuries till tea. In the process, Kamboj also completed 50 first-class wickets in his 19th match.
Kamboj had taken eight wickets at stumps last evening. In the first over of the morning, Kamboj took his ninth wicket by dismissing Basil Thampi and completed his 10th wicket by dismissing Shaun Roger. In this way, Kerala's team stacked on 291 runs in the first innings. Kamboj is only the third bowler in Ranji history to take all 10 wickets in an innings, Prerangsu Mohan Chatterjee was the first bowler to achieve this feat for Bengal in 1956-57, while Pradeep Sundaram took all 10 wickets in an innings for Rajasthan in a match against Vidarbha in the 1985-86 edition.
Overall, Kamboj is only the sixth Indian bowler to take 10 first-class wickets, while veteran leg-spinners Anil Kumble, Subhash Gupte and Debashish Mohanty feature in the list. Kamboj, who recently represented the India A team in the ACC Emerging Asia Cup tournament in Oman, started his domestic red-ball season with a similar stellar performance in the Duleep Trophy. In his second appearance in the tournament, Kamboj became the third fast bowler to take eight wickets in the Duleep Trophy, followed by Mohanty (10/46) and Ashok Dinda (8/123).
