Rahul Dravid's son Anvay named in Vijay Merchant Trophy's probable list
Former Indian cricketer and Head coach Rahul Dravid’s younger son has been named to Karnataka’s probable list for the U-16 Vijay Merchant Trophy. The tournament is set to begin on December 6, 2024. The probable list included 35 players, and Anvay is one of the three wicketkeeper-batsmen alongside Aditya Jha and Joy James.
Former state players Kunal Kapoor and Adithya B Sagar have been appointed as Head coach and bowling coach, respectively, for the Under-16 team by the Karnataka State Cricket Association. Their experience will prove vital in grooming the young cricketing talents like Anway during the Vijay Merchant Trophy campaign. While Dravid’s younger son Anvay is preparing for the Under-16 tournament, his elder son Samit is already representing Karnataka in the Cooch Behar Trophy. Most recently, Samit scored 71 runs against Baroda in the losing cause.
Meanwhile Rahul Dravid is currently busy with his IPL commitments. The former Indian team coach has joined the Rajasthan Royals franchise as their head coach. He will be seen at the auction table for the IPL 2025 mega auction, which is set to be held on November 24 and 25 in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.
A few weeks back, Rahul stated that Rajasthan Royals decided to go for all six out of six retentions and retained Sanju Samson, Riyan Parag, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Dhruv Jurel, Shimron Hetmyer and Sandeep Sharma.
“We came to this decision because we trust our talent. We also trust that we want to maintain and build with that core,” said Dravid on JioCinema.
Rahul Dravid had an amazing stint with the Indian team as their head coach. Dravid joined the team in 2021 and continued his stint till 2024. During his tenure, India finally won its first ICC title in 11 years. India lost a tragic ICC World Cup final in 2023, after which Dravid’s term was extended. In 2024, India reached the ICC T20 World Cup Final and clinched the trophy, making Dravid’s run as head coach a memorable one.
