Border Gavaskar Trophy: India's new stars, three players to make Test debut

The Border Gavaskar Trophy is set to begin from November 22, for which the India's 18-member team has been announced. Experienced bowlers like Mohammed Shami and Kuldeep Yadav have not been included in India's squad, while youngsters like Harshit Rana, Prasidh Krishna and Washington Sundar have been added to the team. The Indian team selected for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy also includes some players who have not yet made their Test debut.

29-year-old Bengal opener Abhimanyu Easwaran has been included in the Indian team for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. Abhimanyu has more than 7600 first-class runs to his name at an average of around 50 and has made it to the India squad ahead of Ruturaj Gaikwad, Sai Sudharsan and Devdutt Padikkal on the basis of recent performances.

Washington Sundar, who returned to the Test team after 1329 days, made headlines in the cricketing world with his 11 wickets against New Zealand in the Pune Test. He is unlikely to be picked above Ravindra Jadeja or R Ashwin for the Test series against Australia, but if either of them is not available then Washington Sundar might get a chance.

Nitish Kumar Reddy, who was Sunrisers Hyderabad's key player in IPL 2024, recently made his international debut during the T20 series against Bangladesh. The 21-year-old Reddy scored 74 runs off 34 balls during the second T20I match, and while bowling, he also took two wickets. Nitish Kumar Reddy is yet to make his Test debut for the India. He has scored 90 runs in 3 T20 Internationals, while in the first class, he has scored 708 runs playing 21 matches. In List A, he scored 403 runs in 22 matches and 485 runs in 23 matches in T20.

Prasidh Krishna has returned from injury and has played four first-class matches during the domestic season. He got only two wickets in two Tests against South Africa last year, but due to his tall height, the selectors and team management have included him in the Indian team for the Australia tour.

The Indian squad picked for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy includes Harshit Rana, who has played just nine first-class matches for Delhi, and impressed everyone with his performances for Kolkata Knight Riders in this year's IPL by taking 19 wickets. Rana took 4 wickets in two innings during the Duleep Trophy matches at the start of the season. However, Harshit has not yet made his Test debut. He has taken 36 wickets in 9 matches in First Class cricket, while in List-A, he has 22 wickets in 14 matches.
