On Thursday, Mumbai Indians defeated Rajasthan Royals by 100 runs in the 50th match of IPL 2025. This match was played at Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur. Hardik Pandya has become only the third captain to lead Mumbai to victory in Jaipur. Mumbai Indians won big on Thursday thanks to the performance of their top-four batsmen and fast bowlers.
The last Mumbai Indians captain to beat Rajasthan Royals in Jaipur was captain Harbhajan Singh. He led the team to win against RR in 2012. Before him, only Sachin Tendulkar had achieved this feat in 2010. Skipper Hardik also contributed well in the match and scored an unbeaten 48 runs in 23 balls, which helped Mumbai set a target of 217 runs. The Rajasthan team had lost wickets in the beginning and their team was all out for 117 runs in 16.1 overs.
"Everyone is very clear and we are going back to simple cricket, it's working for us and hopefully it continues. We want to be humble, very disciplined and focused. We could have scored 15 more runs. We were trying to talk to each other about playing percentage shots. Surya and I said that the shots have value... Rohit and Ryan batted in the same manner. I think it was absolutely fantastic. It's never about people getting chances, it's about what's needed in a situation. People are going back to batting. As a group, the way we batted was absolutely fantastic," Hardik Pandya said at the post-match presentation.
Rajasthan Royals captain Riyan Parag said, "We have to give credit to Mumbai Indians for the way they batted and saved wickets. The way they batted took the game a little deeper. They maintained a consistency of 10 runs per over and scored quick runs in the end. As far as our batting is concerned, it was not our day. "
This was Mumbai Indians' sixth consecutive win in IPL 2025. In the first half of this season, they lost four out of their five matches but they made a great comeback and won consecutive matches. Now MI has reached the top spot with 7 wins out of 11 matches. Mumbai are now in a strong position to qualify for the playoffs and if they maintain their momentum then they can retain the place in the top 2.
