Sunrisers Hyderabad Triumph Over Chennai Super Kings By 5 Wickets

The 43rd match of IPL 2025 saw Sunrisers Hyderabad defeat Chennai Super Kings by 5 wickets at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. Pat Cummins won the toss and opted to bowl first, and it proved to be a good decision for the team.

CSK had a rough start as young opener Sheikh Rashid was dismissed on the very first ball by Mohammed Shami. Ayush Mhatre provided some momentum with a quick 30 off 19 balls, including 6 boundaries. However, others struggled to build partnerships.

Sam Curran, promoted up the order, failed to make an impact and scored only 9 from 10 balls. Ravindra Jadeja added 21 before falling to Kamindu Mendis. But the highlight of CSK’s innings was South African youngster Dewald Brevis, who made a solid debut with a 25-ball 42, hitting four massive sixes.

Towards the end, Deepak Hooda scored a cautious 22 off 21 balls, while MS Dhoni managed just 6 runs from 10 balls. CSK were bowled out for 154 in 19.5 overs. Harshal Patel was the highest wicket taker for SRH against Chennai, taking 4 wickets for 28 runs. Cummins also helped the team by taking two wickets.

Chasing 155, SRH didn’t get off to the best start. Abhishek Sharma was dismissed for a duck in the first over by Khaleel Ahmed. Travis Head looked good before falling for 19, and then Ishan Kishan stepped up with a much-needed 44 off 34 balls.

Heinrich Klaasen couldn’t contribute this time, falling for just 7. Young Aniket Verma also fell cheaply for 19, leaving the match evenly poised.

That’s when Kamindu Mendis and Nitish Kumar Reddy took charge. The pair put together a calm and smart partnership to seal the win. Mendis remained unbeaten on 32 from 22 balls, and Reddy supported well with 19 not out off 13 balls. SRH chased the target of 155 runs in just 18.4 overs with 5 wickets in hand.

This was only SRH’s third win in nine matches, while CSK slumped to their seventh loss of the season, with just two wins so far.
