Why MI's Ryan Rickelton Was Recalled After Being Dismissed Against SRH in IPL 2025

Rickelton's return to no-ball, exciting twist in the MI-SRH match

Summary

In IPL 2025, Mumbai Indians' Ryan Rickelton was recalled despite being dismissed against Sunrisers Hyderabad. In fact, wicketkeeper Heinrich Klaasen had placed gloves in front of the stumps before contact with the ball, which called it a no-ball. Rickelton faced a free-hit but was soon dismissed by Harshal Patel.

A rare moment was witnessed during the match between Mumbai Indians and Sunrisers Hyderabad in IPL 2025 when Mumbai opener Ryan Rickelton walked into the pavilion after being dismissed against SRH spinner Zeeshan Ansari, but was called back by the umpires a few minutes later.

It happened on the fifth ball of the seventh over in the second innings, when Rickelton attempted to hit a wide ball and was caught at covers, where Pat Cummins was standing. While the Sunrisers were celebrating, Rickleton walked back and the ad break was broadcast, then a fourth official stopped the batsman.

Later, the replay was at a side-angle at the striker's end. It wasn't a check for a waist-height no-ball. SRH wicketkeeper Heinrich Klaasen  had placed a small part of his glove in front of Rickelton's stumps before the ball made contact, and so it had to be called a no-ball. Rickelton came back and faced a free-hit on the next ball. He was then dismissed by Harshal Patel before he could complete an over.

This rule is mentioned under Law 27 relating to the wicket-keeper of the Marylebone Cricket Club. It reads: "The wicket-keeper must remain completely behind the wicket at the striker's end, unless the ball bowled by the bowler touches the striker's bat or hand or passes through the wicket at the striker's end or the striker attempts to take runs."

This was the second time in this match when a wicket went on a no-ball. During the first innings, Mumbai Indians captain Hardik Pandya had dismissed Travis Head on a no-ball, but as soon as the Mumbai team started celebrating, the siren sounded for overstepping. However, in the next over, Head was dismissed by Will Jacks. l
