Todays Weather 22 Oct: Diwali festival was celebrated with great pomp across the country. But on the second day of Diwali, a blanket of smog also remained in many states. The air of Delhi has become poisonous, and Delhi has turned into a gas chamber. Despite the implementation of GRAP II norms, the air quality remains in the very poor category. Till 7 am today, Delhi’s air quality index remains very poor with 380. At the same time, it is snowing in the mountains.

A blanket of toxic air enveloped Delhi today. Ashok Vihar recorded an AQI of 355, Bawana 376, Dwarka Sector 8 353, ITO 362, and Nehru Nagar 394. Chandni Chowk recorded a very poor AQI of 332. Around Akshardham, the AQI was recorded at 360, also falling in the very poor category. As the smog continues to intensify, health experts have once again urged citizens, especially children, the elderly, and those suffering from respiratory illnesses, to limit their outdoor activities and wear protective masks when necessary.

Heavy rains have been lashing several parts of Tamil Nadu since morning. The Chennai-based Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) has issued several weather alerts across the state, warning of very heavy to extremely heavy rainfall in several districts. According to the RMC, the weather system is currently located over the southwest Bay of Bengal and is likely to move west-northwestwards towards the coasts of northern Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and southern Andhra Pradesh in the next 24 hours. Following the department’s forecast, a red alert has been issued for Villupuram, Chengalpattu, Cuddalor,e and Mayiladuthurai districts, where extremely heavy rainfall is likely.
