The court clearly stated in its order that the rights of the minor girl must be considered first and foremost in this case. The girl is going through a difficult situation and does not want to carry this pregnancy to term. The court said that the question is not whether the relationship was consensual or not, but the fact is that the girl is a minor and she does not want to become a mother.

Court has acknowledged that continuing the pregnancy could cause young woman a serious mental stress and physical distress and she might also face social stigma.

The medical board’s report also stated that allowing the abortion would not pose any significant risk. Considering all these factors, Supreme Court granted permission for the termination of the pregnancy. It also stipulated that young woman’s written consent would be required.
