Sir has happened eight times so far

The Chief Election Commissioner informed that the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process has been conducted eight times in India between 1951 and 2004. He explained that over the years, several political parties had raised questions about the quality and accuracy of the voter lists. Therefore, this second phase became necessary to correct the errors in the list.

The Commissioner stated that the voter lists in the states where the SIR process is being initiated will be frozen tonight. This means that no changes can be made to the list after this time so that the revision process can be completed in an orderly manner.

SIR News Hindi: Why is SIR important?

Gyanesh Kumar said that the SIR process is necessary for many reasons.

  • Population migration: Due to frequent migration of people, the name of the same person gets registered at multiple places.
  • Names of dead voters: Many times, the names of dead persons are not removed from the list, which causes discrepancies in the data.
  • Entry of foreign nationals: Sometimes, due to wrong information, the names of foreign nationals also get included in the list.
  • He said that it is the priority of the Election Commission to remove these problems and make the voter list completely accurate.
