Prahar-2 Intensifies: Massive statewide crackdown on Gangster Networks
In this 72-hour special mega-operation, the Punjab Police has deployed its full force. Under the leadership of DGP Gaurav Yadav, simultaneous raids, roadblocks, and arrests are being conducted across the state. Punjab CM Bhagwant Singh Mann is personally monitoring the operation. Senior officers at police headquarters are also directly supervising the districts under the CM’s directives, making it clear that the government is not in the mood for any leniency this time. High-tech checkpoints, strict action against vehicles without number plates, and the strategy of sealing off entire areas after any incident have closed all avenues for criminals.
Earlier, Operation Prahar-1, conducted in January, had already transformed the law-and-order situation in Punjab. That 72-hour operation resulted in the arrest of 3,256 people, the recovery of 69 illegal weapons, and even encounters with gangsters in Patiala and Fazilka. On the first day alone, 1,314 gangsters and their associates were apprehended, followed by another 1,186 on the second day. At that time, more than 12,000 police personnel and over 1,200 teams were deployed simultaneously, making it the largest coordinated police operation in Punjab’s history.
Prahar-2 appears to be surpassing even these figures. In just the last 20 days, 17,603 raids have been conducted across Punjab, 5,290 gangsters and their associates have been arrested, 128 weapons have been recovered, and 344 proclaimed offenders have been apprehended. In addition, preventive action has been taken against 2,973 people to weaken the criminal networks at their roots. This data indicates that the Mann government has adopted a policy of “prevention,” not just “reaction,” regarding law and order.

Mann government‘s action against gangsters and drug traffickers continues unabated. Under the ‘War Against Drugs’ campaign, 48,167 drug traffickers have been arrested since March 1, 2025. During this period, 2,149 kg of heroin have been seized, and drug money worth ₹15.91 crore has been confiscated. The registration of 33,779 FIRs demonstrates that the government is relying on concrete action on the ground, not just manipulating statistics.
The arrest of thousands of drug traffickers, the seizure of tons of heroin, and the confiscation of crores of rupees in drug money since March 2025 have dismantled the system that had been destroying generations of Punjab’s youth for decades. This was the same system that received political patronage during the Congress and Akali-BJP coalition governments, while the common people paid the price.
Today, the difference is clear. The Punjab that was once associated with crime and drugs is now becoming an example of strict law and order. Statistics show that Haryana’s overall crime rate is nearly three times worse than Punjab’s. This difference is not a coincidence, but the result of a clear policy, honest leadership, and a zero-tolerance approach.
