PSLV C62 Mission Launch Updates: The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) successfully launched its first orbital mission of 2026, but the satellite could not be deployed. ISRO chief issued a statement saying, “There was a problem in the third stage, and the trajectory deviated.” The PSLV-C62 rocket was launched from Sriharikota. ISRO launched 15 other satellites along with the Anvesha satellite using the 260-ton PSLV-C62 rocket today. The main component of this mission was EOS-N1 Anvesha, a hyperspectral satellite developed by the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO).

ISRO commenced its 2026 launch calendar on Monday with the PSLV-C62 mission. This mission successfully launched the Earth observation satellite EOS-N1 along with 15 other satellites into space. The mission was conducted under ISRO’s commercial arm, NewSpace India Limited (NSIL). These 15 co-passenger satellites include satellites from both domestic and international customers. EOS-N1, a crucial part of this mission, is an advanced Earth observation satellite developed by the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO). All the satellites were successfully launched at 10:17 AM from the first launch pad of the Satish Dhawan Space Centre in Sriharikota.

‘Anvesha’ is a spacecraft that takes pictures while orbiting the Earth. It is equipped with hyper spectral sensors, which are far more sophisticated than ordinary cameras. A regular camera or our eyes can only see red, green, and blue light, but a hyper spectral sensor can capture hundreds of narrow spectral bands (thin strips of colour). These bands are invisible to our eyes or ordinary cameras. Anvesha also analyses unique reflections and identifies hidden objects.

This mission marks the 64th flight of the PSLV rocket. The PSLV is ISRO’s primary launch vehicle, which has previously successfully launched major missions such as Chandrayaan-1, the Mars Orbiter Mission, Aditya-L1, and AstroSat. In 2017, the PSLV also set a world record by launching 104 satellites in a single mission.
