PNG Connection LPG Rule India: If you have a Piped Natural Gas (PNG) connection at home along with an LPG cylinder connection, this news is for you. Amidst the ongoing tensions in the Middle East (specifically the US-Iran conflict), India is witnessing a shortage of LPG. In light of this, the government has revised the regulations. Consequently, under these circumstances, you will now be required to surrender your LPG cylinder. The Ministry of Petroleum has issued directives to oil and gas companies stating that new LPG connections will no longer be granted to existing PNG users.
LPG Price Rise: Increased Prices for LPG Cylinder

The ongoing conflict in the Middle East has heightened global tensions. This conflict has triggered a major energy crisis. Disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz—through which 20 percent of the world’s energy exports pass—have precipitated a crisis in nations that rely heavily on oil and gas imports. In the context of India, amidst this LPG shortage, the government has announced a hike in the prices of LPG cylinders while simultaneously introducing changes to the regulatory framework. In the national capital, Delhi, the price of a domestic LPG cylinder has risen to ₹913.
LPG Connection Surrender: LPG Cylinders Must Be Surrendered

The most significant directive regarding this matter came into effect on March 14 (Saturday). The Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas has issued a new order concerning domestic gas connections, stipulating that individuals who possess both a PNG connection and an LPG connection at their residence will no longer be permitted to maintain two connections simultaneously. Such consumers are now required to surrender their LPG cylinder connections.
PNG Connection LPG Rule India: PNG Users will not receive LPG Connections

Amidst the LPG crisis, tensions regarding cooking gas availability have escalated across the country. To curb the illegal hoarding of LPG cylinders—a problem surfacing in various cities—the Ministry of Petroleum has taken this major decision. The government has updated the LPG regulations. Consequently, individuals who already have a Piped Natural Gas (PNG) connection will no longer be eligible to obtain a domestic LPG cylinder. Those who currently hold both connections are mandated to surrender their LPG cylinders. Furthermore, the facility for cylinder refills will also be discontinued for such individuals.
Ministry of Petroleum published this update in the Official Gazette on March 14, and these LPG regulations have now come into effect. This amendment has been made under the Essential Commodities Act. The government states that this step has been taken to ensure better supply and distribution of domestic gas. The simultaneous possession of PNG and LPG connections previously led to disparities in gas supply; the new regulations will ensure both transparency in supply and cost savings.
