PM Modi Udupi Visit: PM Modi visited the historic Sri Krishna Matha in Udupi and paid honours to 13th-century spiritual leader Sri Madhvacharya.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited the historic Sri Krishna Matha in Udupi on Friday. Where Prime Minister participated in the Laksh Geeta Panthana, a mass gathering where over 1 lakh people participated to recite verses from the Bhagavad Gita at the same time. Prime Minister Modi prayed at the Sri Krishna Temple and took blessings from presiding priest. This is PM Modi’s third visit to Udupi. This is his second visit to the Sri Krishna Matha. PM Modi first visited Udupi in 1993 and then in 2008 when he was the Chief Minister of Gujarat. During this visit, Prime Minister also visited the Sri Krishna Temple.

Udupi’s role in the Ram Mandir movement

After visiting the Sri Krishna Matha, PM Modi said that Udupi introduced a new governance model five decades ago. The entire country is aware of Udupi’s role in Ram Janmabhoomi movement. It was due to the guidance of Sri Vishvesha Teertha Swamiji that flag was hoisted on top of the Ram Temple in Ayodhya. The Ram Temple has a special gate dedicated to Sri Madhvacharya of Udupi.

What did PM Modi say about teachings of the Gita?

PM Modi said that the glimpse of Sri Krishna in the Udupi temple through “Kanak Window” reminds him of saint poet Kanakadasa. During his visit, Prime Minister Modi also spoke about the Gita. He said that Sri Krishna’s teachings in Gita are still relevant today. Lord Krishna, in the Gita, encourages us to work for welfare of public.

According to the officials of Udupi district, special preparations were made before PM Modi’s arrival. The temple complex, surrounding streets, roads, public gatherings places were prepared to accommodate a large number of people arriving. Medical teams, emergency response units, and volunteers were also present at the spot.

Attention Drawn to Vaishnavite Traditions

According to experts, Prime Minister Modi’s visit highlighted the spiritual identity of Udupi. The Vaishnavite traditions of this region have drawn renewed attention from people across the country and the world.
