Mid Day Meal Poisoning: A routine breakfast turned into a medical emergency for 92 tribal children at a government ashram hostel in Andhra Pradesh’s Polavaram district. Soon after consuming the meal, the children’s health began to deteriorate, prompting authorities to rush them to nearby hospitals. In response to the incident, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu on Sunday ordered a detailed inquiry into the suspected food-poisoning case.
The incident occurred on Saturday at the ashram boys’ hostel in Devarapalli village of Rampachodavaram Mandal, raising serious concerns over food safety and monitoring in government-run institutions.
A similar scare unfolded in Bihar, where more than 70 students fell ill after consuming the mid-day meal at the upgraded middle school in Karu Tola Sahugarh under the Sadar block area. The twin incidents have once again exposed alarming lapses in the implementation and oversight of school nutrition programmes.
