12 names retained, 7 modified, 2 changed after detailed review by State Naming Authority
Under the leadership of Delhi Chief Minister and State Naming Authority (SNA) Chairperson, Mrs. Rekha Gupta, the names of some old and new Delhi Metro stations have been changed. While some names have been retained as suggested in the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC)’s Detailed Project Report (DPR), Authority’s Chairperson stated that metro stations are not just transit points, but also reflect the identity and cultural significance of the area, and therefore, each name was carefully considered before making the final decision.
Disclosing this decision, Delhi Chief Minister and Authority Chairperson, Mrs. Rekha Gupta, stated that after reviewing the names of 21 stations proposed in the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC)’s Detailed Project Report (DPR), the Authority has decided to retain 12 names, modify 7, and change the names of 2 stations.
Chief Minister Rekha Gupta stated that several key factors were taken into consideration when renaming the stations, including the local identity of the area, its historical, social, and cultural significance, and recommendations received from local representatives and citizens. He stated that the names have been chosen in a way that will avoid confusion for passengers and ensure the geographical identity of the area is clear. Where necessary, combined names have been approved, combining the names of nearby major areas, to make it easier for people to understand directions.
