Mamata Banerjee reaction on Kolkata Stampede: Legendary footballer Lionel Messi arrived at the Subhash Chandra Bose stadium in Kolkata on saturday for his three-day visit to India. He was scheduled to appear at the salt lake stadium. Thousands of fans waited for hours at the stadium to catch glimpse of him. Whereas, fans present at the stadium were unable to see him due to major disturbance at the stadium, in which fans vandalised the property of stadium and created chaos. This resulted Messi to leave from the stadium within 10 minutes. Chief Minister of West Bengal Mamata Banerjee apologised to the fans for mismanagement during the event.

Mamata Banerjee’s Reaction: Chief Minister Mamata apologized, writing – “I am very upset and shocked.”

Mamata Banerjee wrote in her X post, “I am deeply disturbed and shocked by the mismanagement that occurred at the Salt Lake Stadium today. I was on my way to the stadium to attend the event along with thousands of sports enthusiasts and fans. The fans had gathered to catch a glimpse of their favorite footballer, Lionel Messi. I sincerely apologise to Lionel Messi, his fans, and all sports lovers for this unfortunate incident.”

“I am constituting an inquiry committee headed by retired Justice Ashim Kumar Roy, with Chief Secretary and Additional Chief Secretary, Home Department, as members. The committee will conduct a detailed investigation into the incident, fix responsibility, and suggest measures to prevent such incidents in the future. Once again, I sincerely apologise to all sports lovers.”

Lionel Messi will be in India from December 13 to 15, a busy trip that will take him to four different locations. He arrives here after leading Inter Miami to their first Major League Soccer championship earlier this week – his 48th trophy in a remarkable career – adding yet another achievement to his illustrious career. The first stop on Messi’s packed schedule is Kolkata. He is expected to arrive at the Salt Lake Stadium around 11:30 AM before departing for Hyderabad later in the day.

Fans waited for hours for Messi to arrive at the stadium, but football star only appeared for about 10 minutes. During that time, he was surrounded by organisers and other officials. As a result, most fans couldn’t even get a proper look at him. When Messi left the stadium, the fans erupted in anger and vandalised the stadium, with pictures and videos of the incident going viral on social media. Accusing organisers for the mismanagement, fans said, “Only politicians and actors were around Messi… Why were we even invited?… We paid 12,000 rupees for tickets, but we couldn’t even see his face…”
