Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann reiterated that the Punjab government is committed to preserving and promoting the state’s rich spiritual and cultural heritage for future generations. He emphasized that from commemorating the martyrdom day of Guru Tegh Bahadur to celebrating the birth anniversary (Prakash Parv) of Guru Ravidas, Punjab continues to honor its glorious legacy with pride and devotion.
During the occasion, Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann posted on X, “Today, on Maha Shivaratri, I, along with AAP National Convener Arvind Kejriwal and Punjab in-charge Manish Sisodia, sought the blessings of Lord Shiva and paid obeisance at Shri Rankeshwar Temple in village Ranike of the Dhuri Assembly constituency. I prayed for the country’s prosperity, peace, harmony, and lasting brotherhood among all. May Lord Shiva’s blessings always remain upon everyone.”
Both leaders stated, “We paid obeisance at Shri Rankeshwar Mahadev Temple and prayed for the peace, progress, and prosperity of the state. On the auspicious occasion of Maha Shivaratri, we offered prayers at the Siddh Peeth for the welfare of humanity.” They added that Maha Shivaratri inspires people to strive for the pursuit of truth, leading toward the ultimate consciousness symbolized by Lord Shiva. The festival emphasizes righteousness, devotion, mutual love, and harmony.
Highlighting the cultural importance of the occasion, they said that it is an important festival regarded as a foundation of the great Indian civilization. Shri Rankeshwar Mahadev is considered a revered Siddh Peeth in Punjab’s Malwa region. Historically, Siddh Peeths have been regarded as sacred sites where intense penance and spiritual practices were performed, leading to divine realization.
They further stated that such places hold great significance in tradition, as it is believed that centuries of devotion and penance generate spiritual power. The temple is traditionally associated with the era of the Mahabharata, particularly with the penance performed by Arjuna to please Lord Shiva. It is believed that after deep penance, Lord Shiva appeared before Arjuna and blessed him with the divine weapon, the Gandiva bow.
Mahashivaratri 2026: Cultural Heritage and Spiritual Legacy of Shri Rankeshwar Mahadev
Connecting the site to India’s epic heritage, the leaders said that its association with one of India’s greatest epics gives it profound mythological and historical identity. Shri Rankeshwar Mahadev reflects the continuity of Shiva devotion in the Malwa belt and serves as a reminder that Punjab’s cultural identity has been shaped by multiple layers of spiritual history. They emphasized that Maha Shivaratri is not merely a religious festival but is deeply connected to ancient civilization.
They added that the festival commemorates the divine union of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati and symbolizes spiritual awakening and self-discipline. Celebrating Maha Shivaratri at historically significant sites like this strengthens the continuity of age-old traditions and beliefs. Annual celebrations at Shri Rankeshwar Mahadev help preserve it not as a forgotten monument but as a living heritage site.
Highlighting the site’s cultural relevance, they noted that it reflects centuries-old devotional practices passed down from one generation to another. The continuity of rituals shows how faith traditions adapt over time while retaining their core essence, forming an important part of the region’s intangible cultural heritage. Such gatherings strengthen regional identity and social unity in the Malwa region, bringing together people from diverse walks of life under a shared spiritual and cultural banner.
Expressing the state government’s commitment to heritage preservation, the leaders said that the Punjab government is making consistent efforts to connect younger generations with the state’s rich cultural legacy. They noted that the government has already commemorated the 350th martyrdom anniversary of Guru Tegh Bahadur in a remarkable manner and is fully prepared to celebrate the 650th birth anniversary (Prakash Parv) of Guru Ravidas in an equally grand way. In conclusion, they stated that the government aims to ensure that future generations are well acquainted with the state’s rich cultural heritage.
