LPG Supply Update India: Amidst reports of LPG gas shortages in the country, the government has provided important information regarding the situation. LPG Supply Update India: Two LNG cargoes heading to India

Sujata Sharma, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas (MoNG), stated that the country’s crude oil and gas supply is currently secure. She stated that two LNG cargoes are on their way to India, which will improve gas availability. She also stated that the current volume of crude oil arriving in India is higher than the normal volume coming through the Strait of Hormuz. Oil marketing companies (OMCs) are ensuring crude oil supplies from various countries. Previously, approximately 55 percent of India’s crude oil arrived via the Strait of Hormuz, but now approximately 75 percent is being imported through other routes.
There’s no need to rush into LPG bookings
In many parts of the country, panic is being seen among people regarding LPG cylinder bookings. The government has appealed to them not to rush. Officials say that domestic LPG deliveries normally take about 2.5 days. The government is continuously monitoring energy supplies and additional arrangements are being made in light of global circumstances. Therefore, consumers need not panic and book more cylinders.
LPG supply crisis India: Refineries Operating at Full Capacity

According to officials, all refineries in the country are operating at their maximum capacity. Some refineries are operating at over 100 percent capacity to avoid any major shortages in fuel and gas supply. India’s total gas consumption is approximately 189 million standard cubic meters per day. Of this, approximately 97.5 million standard cubic meters is produced domestically, while the remaining is imported. Due to rising tensions in the Middle East, approximately 47.4 million standard cubic meters of gas per day has been affected.
25% Increase in Domestic LPG Production

To address the gas shortage, the government has also focused on increasing domestic production. Officials stated that recent measures have led to a 25% increase in LPG production in the country. India meets approximately 60% of its total gas needs through imports, with approximately 90% of this import coming through the Strait of Hormuz. Given the current situation, the government is increasing purchases through alternative routes and from other countries to minimise the impact on supply.
Efforts to Control LPG Prices
The government says it is continuously making efforts to control gas prices. Currently, the price of a domestic LPG cylinder in Delhi is around ₹913. According to officials, if the government had not intervened, prices could have been much higher due to the international situation. The ongoing tensions in West Asia have affected approximately 30 percent of India’s gas supply. Despite this, LPG prices in the country have remained stable due to measures taken by the Oil Ministry.
