Kamsundari Devi Death News: The death of Kamsundari Devi, the third wife and last Maharani of Maharaja Kameshwar Singh of Darbhanga, has sent a wave of grief across the entire Mithila region. She had been unwell for the past six months and passed away on Monday at the Maharaja’s Kalyani residence in Darbhanga. Members of the royal family and a large number of dignitaries have gathered to make arrangements for the funeral and are expressing their condolences on the Maharani’s passing.
Maharani of Darbhanga Passes Away: The Maharani breathed her last at 3 AM

Rameshwar Singh, the eldest grandson of Maharani Kamsundari, said that the Maharani breathed her last at around 3 AM on Monday morning. Her last rites will be performed at the Madheshwar grounds. Rameshwar said, “This is a very sad time for all of us. Family members are gathering. Rajeshwar Singh is currently in the US, while Kapileshwar Singh is arriving soon.”
Bihar’s Agriculture Minister expresses condolences

Meanwhile, Bihar Agriculture Minister Ram Kripal Yadav expressed his condolences, posting on his social media platform X, “The entire state of Bihar is plunged into mourning at the passing of the last Maharani of the Darbhanga royal family, Maharani Kamsundari Devi. Her life was an inspiring example of sacrifice, service, and patriotism. During the Indo-China war, she set an unparalleled example of national service by donating 600 kilograms of gold to the country.”
He further wrote, “The passing of Maharani Kamsundari Devi is an irreparable loss not only for Darbhanga but for the entire state of Bihar and the country. May God grant peace to her soul and provide strength and solace to the bereaved family during this difficult time.”
She married Maharaja Kameshwar Singh in 1940

It is noteworthy that Maharani Kamasundari Devi was born in 1930 and married Maharaja Kameshwar Singh in 1940. Earlier, the Maharaja had married his first wife, Maharani Rajlakshmi, and his second wife, Maharani Kameshwari Priya.
Maharaja Kameshwar Singh was the last ruler of Darbhanga and passed away in 1962. His first wife, Maharani Rajlakshmi, died in 1976, while his second wife, Maharani Kameshwari Priya, passed away in 1940.
Darbhanga Maharani Death: Kalyani Foundation established in memory of the Maharaja

After the Maharaja’s death, Maharani Kamasundari Devi established Kalyani Foundation in his memory. Through this foundation, she built a library in Darbhanga, which still houses approximately 15,000 books. Through the foundation, she promoted literary and cultural activities and encouraged education and culture in the Mithila region.
Now, the passing of Maharani Kamasundari Devi is being seen not only as the end of an era for the royal family but for the entire Mithila region. Her contributions and social service will be remembered for a long time. The royal family and local people are paying tribute to her.
