Mass cancellations leave thousands stranded; IndiGo blames network issues
IndiGo flight cancel caused chaos at multiple airports, at least 85 flights including 38 in Delhi and 33 in Mumbai due to the shortage of crew members, technical issues and airport congestion.
This inconvenience faced by thousands of fliers and in response to public backlash IndiGo issued an apology, “We acknowledge that IndiGo’s operations have been disrupted due to network issue for past two days, and we sincerely apologise to our customers for the inconvenience caused.”
Social Media was filled with videos showing angry passengers arguing with staff due to the cancellations, with many posting on X and expressing their frustration and tagging Prime Minister Modi, Union and Civil Aviation Minister ram Mohan Naidu.
Indigo Flights Cancelled: Stranded flyers slam IndiGo
Indigo staff are being dishonest, and passengers have been stranded for over 12 hours without any confirmation. My flights has been delayed for more than 7 hours. I will never travel in IndiGo again. This situation need to be investigated,” a flyer said who was stranded for hours.
IndiGo’s recent delay in flights and cancellations, includes 1,232 cancellation sin November, due to multiple factors. Sources says that new Flight Duty Time Limits (FDTL) introduced in November, that disrupted pilot rosters and lead to shortage of crew members. Higher number of winter passengers, technical glitches, adverse weather, and airport congestion further delayed the flight operations.
IndiGo admits operational setbacks as DGCA launches probe into rising cancellations
The airline acknowledges that these challenges, stating that changes in technologies, schedule, and update rostering rules had impacted. Whereas, the efforts are ongoing to minimise passenger inconvenience though main challenge remains with the crew shortage.
Meanwhile, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) on Wednesday has launched a probe into IndiGo’s performance decline in November. The decision comes as the airline recorded 1,232 cancellations in November including delay in flying time.
