Healthcare Leadership: Dr Sandeep Bansal has taken charge as President of the Indian Association of Surgeons for Sleep Apnoea (IASSA), outlining a bold, collaborative vision to combat the growing burden of obstructive sleep apnoea (OSA) in India.
Patient-Centered Treatment
Calling OSA a “silent epidemic” with serious cardiovascular, metabolic, and neurocognitive consequences, Dr Bansal stressed that its management must move beyond isolated speciality care toward a structured interdisciplinary model. He advocated closer integration between ENT surgeons, pulmonologists, sleep physicians, maxillofacial surgeons, neurologists, anesthesiologists, and allied health experts to ensure comprehensive, patient-centred treatment.
Standardised Surgical Pathways
Under his leadership, IASSA will prioritise evidence-based protocols, collaborative research, standardised surgical pathways, and advanced training platforms for young clinicians. Strengthening national and international academic partnerships will also be a key focus.
Innovation in healthcare
Expressing gratitude for the trust reposed in him, Dr Bansal reaffirmed his commitment to elevating the standards of sleep medicine and sleep surgery in India through innovation, education, and unified clinical excellence.
