Haryana News Update: AAP National Media In-charge Anurag Dhanda strongly criticised the education system in Haryana, alleging severe neglect of government schools. He said young children are being forced to sit on mats in classrooms at temperatures as low as 5 degrees Celsius, exposing them to extreme cold. Dhanda pointed out that the teacher-student ratio is alarmingly poor, with one teacher handling 400–500 students, while nearly 90 per cent of government schools are functioning without a headmaster. He further alleged that the lack of basic infrastructure, such as classrooms, doors and windows, forces children to attend classes in open verandas even during harsh winter conditions. Calling it a serious threat to children’s lives, Dhanda urged the government to stop its negligence and immediately make arrangements to protect students from the cold in schools.
Haryana News Update: AAP alleges severe neglect in Haryana govt schools as Children study on floors in cold

Aam Aadmi Party’s National Media In-Charge, Anurag Dhanda, launched a scathing attack on the BJP government on Sunday over the dire and alarming condition of government schools in Haryana. He said that despite the biting cold across Haryana, with temperatures dropping to 5 to 8 degrees Celsius, thousands of young children are still forced to sit on mats or directly on the floor in government schools. This is not just mismanagement, but a direct injustice to the health and future of these children.
Anurag Dhanda said that the Education Department had verified the need for dual desks in all government schools and had even requested demand reports by March 5, 2025. The government had claimed that children would no longer have to sit on the ground, but the situation remained unchanged even by December 2025. The question is, what happened to that entire dual desk plan? Is the suffering of children merely a matter of paperwork for the BJP government?
He said that ground reports clearly show that many government schools lack sufficient rooms, broken doors and windows remain unrepaired, and there are no provisions to protect children from the cold. In many schools, children are studying in verandahs, while in others, they are forced to sit on the floor in windowless rooms amidst the cold air. Basic facilities like heaters, hot water, or any protection from the cold are unavailable.
AAP flags acute Infrastructure crisis, Teacher shortage in Haryana Schools; CM’s silence questioned

Anurag Dhanda said that the situation is so bad that in some places, there are only 3-4 rooms for 600 children. In some schools, more than 350 children are forced to hold prayers and classes in the open. Many government primary schools don’t even have their own buildings and are operating from other schools. This situation reflects the true picture of Haryana’s education system.
Questioning Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini’s silence, he asked the Chief Minister to explain what the government is doing when young children are forced to sit on the floor in the cold. Is this the BJP’s ‘Haryana model’ and ‘world-class education’ that they boast about from public platforms?
Anurag Dhanda added that the situation is further exacerbated by the severe shortage of teachers in the state. More than 30,000 teaching positions are lying vacant. In many districts, there is only one teacher for every 400-500 students. Approximately 90 percent of government schools lack a headmaster, which means children are not receiving proper guidance, and the schools are not being managed effectively. Instead of making permanent appointments, the government is relying on temporary arrangements through the Haryana Kaushal Rozgar Nigam (Haryana Skill Employment Corporation), which is leading to a continuous decline in the quality of education.
AAP seeks immediate desks, teachers, and repairs to safeguard students in Haryana schools
The Aam Aadmi Party has demanded that the government immediately provide dual desks in all government schools, end the practice of children being forced to sit on the floor, fill all vacant teacher and headmaster positions immediately, repair school buildings, and ensure necessary facilities for the safety of children during the cold weather.
Anurag Dhanda said that the Aam Aadmi Party will become the voice of the children studying in Haryana’s government schools and will take this issue to every citizen of the state. Children’s futures should be built in safe, dignified, and well-equipped classrooms, not in files and empty promises.
