Gujarat Farmers Mahapanchayat: A mahapanchayat was held on Friday in Sudamda village of Surendranagar district in Gujarat to protest against the rights of farmers and the oppression they face. Addressing the mahapanchayat, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national convener Arvind Kejriwal said that the BJP government in Gujarat has been oppressive and cruel to farmers. He warned that this time, the public will remove the BJP from power.

Kejriwal stated that the BJP government jailed 85 farmers to suppress their demands. He said, “Farmers are crying today on the land of Sardar Patel. We wanted to honour the families of the jailed farmers on stage, but the police removed them.” Kejriwal alleged that Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghvi ordered the lathi charge and filing of false cases against the farmers, and was subsequently rewarded with the appointment of Deputy Chief Minister. He said that the BJP government, driven by its arrogance, is suppressing the voices of the farmers.
Farmers’ Mahapanchayat: The fight between Sardar Patel and the farmers
On Sardar Patel’s 150th birth anniversary, Kejriwal reminded everyone that Patel had fought against the British on behalf of farmers during the Kheda Movement in 1918 and the Bardoli Satyagraha in 1928. He said that the British never lathi-charged farmers, but the BJP government, after independence, filed false cases against them and imprisoned them.
Gujarat News: Farmers’ rights and tax system
Kejriwal said that farmers are not getting fair prices for their crops. The BJP, while in power at the center, promised to provide farmers with MSP, but this has not been fulfilled. The tax system is still in effect on farmers. He said that the police are entering farmers’ homes and harassing even their children.
Congress and BJP alliance
Kejriwal alleged that the Congress and the BJP in Gujarat are in a secret pact with each other. This is why only Aam Aadmi Party leaders end up in jail, while Congress leaders remain safe. He said that the Aam Aadmi Party is the only party raising its voice against the farmers’ movement in Gujarat.
Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann attacks BJP
Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann said that the BJP is being unfair to farmers. He demanded that the Gujarat government provide compensation of 50,000 rupees per hectare for damaged crops. Mann said that when farmers are angry, they know how to take revenge. He assured the farmers that the Aam Aadmi Party will always stand with them.
Appeal to the public and preparation for the future
Bhagwant Mann and Kejriwal appealed to the public to use the “broom” to remove the corrupt and dictatorial government from Gujarat this time. They said that the fight between farmers and the general public is not a personal battle but a fight for survival. Kejriwal concluded, “The BJP has ruled the people of Gujarat for 30 years; now it’s time for the people to shake off this burden. Any party that suppresses the voices of farmers and the general public will be out of power.”
