According to Nandanvan police station inspector Vinayak Koli, the deceased young man was identified as Balaji Kalyane. He was originally from Nanded district and was living in Nagpur on rent while preparing for competitive exams. The accused woman’s name is Rati Deshmukh, 25 years old. She is also from Nanded and is studying BAMS at a college in Nagpur. The two had been in a relationship for several years.
Late Night Stabbing Incident: How did the incident happen?
According to the police, for the past few days, Balaji suspected that Rati was having an affair with another man. This led to constant arguments between the two. The relationship between them was deteriorating, and they frequently quarrelled. On the night of the incident, Rati went to Balaji’s room to meet him. Late at night, around three o’clock, an argument started between them over something. During the argument, Rati, in a fit of rage, picked up a knife and stabbed Balaji four or five times in the neck. Due to the severity of the attacks, Balaji died on the spot.

After committing the murder, Rati panicked and started shouting loudly, “Help! Help!” to mislead people. Hearing her screams, Balaji’s friends, who were sleeping in a nearby room, rushed to the spot. They saw Balaji lying in a pool of blood and Rati also injured. Both were immediately taken to the hospital. However, doctors declared Balaji dead. Rati also had injuries on her body, for which she is receiving treatment. Police say that she inflicted these injuries on herself to make it look like a suicide or a fight.
Police Register Murder Case
The police have registered a case of murder (IPC 302) against Rati Deshmukh. She is currently admitted to a government hospital. Police say that as soon as her condition improves, she will be arrested.
