Delhi Traffic System Change: Significant changes in Delhi’s traffic system may soon be implemented. In response to the city’s worsening pollution and growing traffic congestion, the government has prepared a new action plan. Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has made it clear that there will be zero tolerance for those contributing to pollution.
During a crucial meeting held at the Delhi Secretariat on Monday, December 22, 2025, the government took several key decisions aimed at improving traffic management and ensuring cleaner air in the national capital.
Delhi Traffic System Change: Strict action against those driving vehicles without PUC
The government has taken its strictest step yet against vehicles operating without a valid Pollution Under Control (PUC) certificate. Such vehicles will now be penalized with an immediate fine of ₹10,000. Earlier, offenders could seek relief through Lok Adalats, but the Chief Minister has categorically directed that no fines will be waived under any circumstances.
The government has emphasized that its objective is not revenue collection, but ensuring clean, safe air for the public.
Separate Routes for E-Buses: Plans to launch E-Bus service with Ola-Uber
To reduce pollution, the Delhi government is now planning to work with private companies. The government will be in talks with companies like Ola and Uber to operate electric buses or pollution-free buses in Delhi-NCR. If these buses operate on a shared or pooled model, the number of private vehicles will decrease, reducing both traffic and pollution.
Delhi Government Traffic Plan: New guidelines for e-rickshaws
E-rickshaws have emerged as a significant contributor to traffic congestion in Delhi. Prolonged traffic jams force vehicles to remain idle for long periods, leading to higher fuel consumption and increased pollution. To tackle this issue, the government will soon introduce new guidelines for e-rickshaws. These will include designated routes and clearly defined operating zones to ensure smoother traffic movement.
Improvement in DTC bus routes
The government has also decided to improve the Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) bus services. The Chief Minister said that buses should be easily accessible to every area of Delhi. When people have access to good bus service from home to their destination, they will reduce their use of private vehicles and prioritize public transport.
Relief to common people from the new EV policy
According to sources, a draft of Delhi’s new electric vehicle (EV) policy is expected to be released in the first week of January 2026. The policy is likely to place special emphasis on easing the burden on the middle class. Electric two-wheelers may be offered subsidies ranging from ₹35,000 to ₹40,000.
In addition, owners who convert their petrol or diesel vehicles to electric are also expected to receive government support. The Delhi government has reiterated that maintaining a clean, safe, and green capital remains its highest priority. These measures are aimed not only at curbing pollution but also at improving traffic management and overall transportation facilities for residents.
