Delhi Police Safety App: Crimes against women in India are increasing steadily every year. These crimes are not only happening outside the home, at workplaces, on the streets, in colleges, schools, or hostels, but women are not safe even in their own homes.

According to data from the National Crime Records Bureau, more than 400,000 crimes are committed against women every year. These cases include domestic violence, dowry harassment, molestation, and rape. The data shows that a total of 445,256 cases were registered in 2022. These are only the cases that were officially recorded, those that reached the women’s helpline numbers or police stations.

Ending Culture of Silence: Protecting Women and Upholding Justice

Many cases in India go unreported; they are simply considered to have happened and are forgotten. Sometimes, when a woman goes to a police station to file a complaint, she is pressured to withdraw the case in the name of morality or social norms. Often, she is silenced by appeals to family honour and reputation.

But is this right? Should women remain silent about the crimes committed against them? Should they do nothing? No, absolutely not. Such cases need to be taken even more seriously so that criminals do not dare to commit such acts against any woman again.

Smartphone Emergency Call Features For Women: Adopt these measures

Understand your situation: Sometimes, troublemakers on the streets start making inappropriate remarks to girls for no reason, making lewd gestures, or singing obscene songs. In such a situation, observe the surroundings. If there are other people around, shout loudly at the troublemakers, even if you don’t look at them directly. This will draw the attention of the people around you, and the troublemakers will become uncomfortable because of your voice.

File a report: This is a very difficult task. It requires a lot of courage. It’s easy to say, but difficult to do, because by doing so, you find yourself in situations that most ordinary people would be afraid of. Even if no proper action is taken after filing a report, it puts pressure on the police and administration to try to curb crimes against women in the area.

Keep safety apps handy: Nowadays, mobile phones have become the best tool for women’s safety. There are many applications that can be beneficial for safety at every step. For example, ride-hailing apps like Uber, Ola, and Rapido provide driver information, and these apps can be useful in times of need.

In addition, government safety apps like the Sanchar Saathi app can provide a certain level of security. Similarly, Himmat Plus is the official safety app of the Delhi Police. It has been specifically designed keeping women’s safety in mind.

Your mobile phone’s Emergency SOS feature can also come in handy. With this feature, an emergency call is placed as soon as you press phone’s button. Your location is sent to your saved contacts, and on many phones, the camera and audio are also activated.

It’s easy to turn on. On Android phones, go to Settings, tap on Safety & Emergency or Emergency SOS, add Emergency Contacts, and turn on the option to press the power button 3 or 5 times. Now, in any emergency, simply press the power button.
Similarly, on an iPhone, to activate Emergency SOS, open Settings, go to Emergency SOS, turn on Call with Side Button, and set your Emergency Contacts.
