A cabinet meeting was held on Tuesday at the Delhi Secretariat, chaired by the Chief Minister. This important decision was taken at the same meeting. According to the government, approximately 396,615 women receiving widow pensions and approximately 131,515 beneficiaries of disability pensions will be included in this scheme. This move will provide health security benefits not only to the beneficiaries but also to their families. The government aims to ensure that no needy person in the capital faces problems due to a lack of treatment.
CM Rekha Gupta: Millions of families will receive direct benefits
The Chief Minister stated that this decision will bring approximately 5.5 lakh additional families under the protection of health insurance. Previously, families under the Antyodaya Anna Yojana (AAY), Priority Area (PRS) category, senior citizens over 70 years of age, ASHA workers, Anganwadi workers, and helpers were benefiting from this scheme. Now, pension-holding widows and persons with disabilities have also been included in this scope. This will expand the scope of healthcare services in Delhi beyond ever before.
Efforts to Advance the Prime Minister’s Vision
The Chief Minister said that this decision is inspired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of “Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Vishwas, and Sabka Prayas.” Under Ayushman Bharat, millions of poor families across the country have received health coverage. The Delhi government says that it wants to advance this vision and extend the benefits of the scheme to every eligible person in the capital. The government’s goal is to ensure that no citizen is deprived of treatment due to a lack of money.
Ayushman Card and Hospital Network
According to government data, 723,707 Ayushman cards have been issued in Delhi so far. Of these, 274,620 cards have been issued to senior citizens. To ensure smooth implementation of the scheme, 208 hospitals in Delhi have been empanelled, including 156 private and 53 government hospitals. This will enable patients to access treatment at their nearest hospital. So far, more than 29,120 people have been treated under this scheme through the State Health Agency (SHA), Delhi. This number is steadily increasing, demonstrating the scheme’s effectiveness.
A Major Step Towards Health Security
Chief Minister Rekha Gupta stated that this is not just an administrative decision, but a commitment to the dignity and health of Delhi’s needy families. The government believes that only a healthy society can lead to a strong and developed society. This decision will provide significant relief to the poor, vulnerable, and underprivileged. The Delhi government aims to ensure equal access to healthcare services for all in the capital. This initiative will not only facilitate access to medical facilities but also strengthen public confidence.
