Delhi News: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) performed a havan (fire ritual) at Kalindi Kunj Chhath Ghat on Wednesday, levelling serious allegations against the BJP government regarding cleanliness of the Yamuna River during Chhath Mahaparv festival. Party leaders described this ritual as an act of seeking forgiveness for BJP government’s failures and offered prayers to Mother Yamuna, Chhathi Maiya, and Lord Surya (the Sun God).

Delhi state convener Saurabh Bhardwaj said that BJP government had misled Purvanchal community living in Delhi. He alleged that the government had deceived people by claiming the Yamuna’s polluted and sewage-filled water was clean, allowing them to perform Chhath Puja in it, which he called a great sin. The AAP organised the havan as an act of atonement for this sin.

Delhi News Today: “Environment Minister’s Statement Exposes Government’s Deception”

Burari MLA Sanjeev Jha said that Delhi’s Environment Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa recently admitted that the Yamuna River water is not fit for bathing or even for ritualistic sipping. He questioned why this truth was concealed when BJP leaders were claiming that the Yamuna was clean during Chhath Puja. Sanjeev Jha said that Chhath is the most sacred and cleanliness-oriented festival of the पूर्वांचल (Purvanchal) community. Forcing people to perform their rituals in polluted water is extremely unfortunate.

“False Information Led to Impure Worship”

Sanjeev Jha stated that due to the false propaganda of BJP leaders, devotees performed their rituals with water contaminated with sewage, rendering their worship impure. This is why they went to the Yamuna riverbank to seek forgiveness from Surya Dev (Sun God) and Chhathi Maiya (Goddess Chhathi). He appealed to Chief Minister Rekha Gupta and the entire cabinet not to spread falsehoods regarding religious festivals in the future.

“BJP Leaders’ Old Claims and Today’s Reality”

AAP leaders reminded that a few months ago, BJP leaders had gone to the banks of the Yamuna River, bathed in it, and performed rituals, claiming that the river had been cleaned. But now, the ministers themselves are warning people that entering the Yamuna can cause illnesses. This clearly exposes the BJP’s double standards.

“This is not just politics, it’s a matter of faith”

Former MLA Akhilesh Pati Tripathi said that Chhath Puja is a festival of cleanliness and purity. Forcing people to offer prayers in polluted water on such a sacred occasion is a very serious matter. He alleged that the Chief Minister and BJP MLAs misled the public by drinking the water and putting on a show. As a result, the fasts of many devotees were affected.

“Deep Hurt to the Sentiments of the Purvanchal Community”

Former MLA Vinay Mishra said that Chhath Puja involves a difficult 72-hour fast, and special attention is paid to cleanliness. But due to the BJP’s false propaganda, the sanctity of this holy festival has been violated in Delhi. He said that now that the ministers themselves are admitting that the Yamuna contains sewage water, it is clear that the public was lied to during Chhath Puja.

“Apology and a Pledge for the Future”

During the हवन (havan/fire ritual), AAP leaders prayed to Lord Surya (Sun God) to forgive any religious transgressions that may have occurred due to the mistakes of the BJP government. They also appealed to the people not to fall for any political deception in the future and to protect their faith.
