Delhi Airport Incident: A SpiceJet passenger has accused an Air India Express pilot of assault following an altercation over queue-jumping at Terminal 1 of Indira Gandhi International Airport. The passenger, Ankit Diwan, claimed the incident occurred in front of his seven-year-old daughter, who, according to him, is deeply traumatised after witnessing the attack. Diwan took to social media, tagging the Delhi Police, and questioned why he was not allowed to file a complaint after returning from his trip.

“Do I have to sacrifice my money to get justice? Will the CCTV footage disappear in the next two days before I return to Delhi?” he asked. The Delhi Police, however, claimed that no formal complaint has been received regarding the incident. This post is rapidly going viral on social media. Let’s understand the full details of the case.

Police said the matter came to their attention through a social media post. Appropriate legal action will be taken as soon as a written complaint is received from the victim. Diwan also alleged that he was forced to write a letter stating that he would not pursue the matter further. The passenger claimed, “I was given the choice of either writing that letter or missing my flight and losing my Rs 1.2 lakh holiday booking.”

Diwan recounted that incident occurred while he was travelling with his family. Airport staff directed him, his wife, and their children, including a four-month-old baby in a stroller, to use a security check lane typically reserved for staff to facilitate their movement through the terminal.

He alleged that while they were in line, some staff members started cutting in front of them. “The staff members were breaking the line and pushing ahead of me,” he said. When the passenger objected, Captain Virendra allegedly asked if he was illiterate and couldn’t read the signboards indicating that the entrance was for staff only.

The argument quickly escalated into a heated altercation and a physical fight, leaving the passenger bleeding. Air India Express issued a statement condemning the incident and stating that it does not tolerate such behaviour. The employee involved has been immediately removed from official duties pending the completion of an investigation. Appropriate disciplinary action will be taken based on the findings of the investigation. The airline clarified that the individual was travelling as a passenger on another airline at the time of the incident and was not on official duty.
