Delhi Airport Flight Disruption: Hundreds of flights got delayed at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport this morning due to technical issues in the Air Traffic control (ATC) system which led the controllers to manually process every arrival and departure. The delay in flights began from Thursday evening and disrupted all the operations at the India’s busiest airport causing increase in the delays across other key airports.
The key controllers lost their access to the automated flight plan data due to the crashing of automatic message Switching System (AMSS). currently, the operations are so slow that wait time has increased to 53 minutes by mid-morning of friday and this airport typically handles 1,500 flight movement daily. Airlines including IndiGo, Air India, Spicejet, and Akasa Air have already warned passengers of extended delays
Approx. 400 flights delayed

A spokesperson for the Delhi International airport Ltd (DIAL) stated that flight operation were delayed due to a technical issue with ATC system. And their teams are working closely with the airport authority of India (AAI) to restore the operations at the earliest.
While Air India also said, “we regret about the inconvenience caused due to some technical reason, which is beyond our control and appreciate your patience.” our cabin crew and the on-ground staff at the airport are working to reduce the inconvenience.

At the airport, passengers are facing long queues, and extended in the wait timings onboard aircraft, leading to rescheduling announcements. Many passengers took the incident towards the social media to complain about boing stuck for hours without clarity from the airlines. While the technicians are working to restore the functions, whereas, the officials are mentioning that the backlog can take few hours to clear. This delay is expected at the airports in lucknow, jaipur, Chandigarh and Amritsar.
ATC operation are stable but slower than usual. “the work of restoration is still in progress” said by a senior AAI official around noon. till now, approximately 400 flights are delayed.

Flight tracking data is showing that over 513 flights were delayed on Thursday and till Friday morning approx. 171 more flights are added to the list. Each of the single delay is leading to the chaos at the airport and compounding the next aircraft queued for manual clearance which normally used to be done automatically within seconds.
This manual process is making congestion on the airport both on the ground and as well as in the airspace, the controller is lacking in handling the workload. Airlines are facing operational challenges which are beyond their control, whereas the ground teams are attempting in managing passengers who are waiting for the technical issue to get resolved.
