Heavy Rain Alert in States: Cyclone ‘Montha’ formed over the Bay of Bengal may hit the Andhra Pradesh coast today. As per the reports, heavy rains are lashing several districts including Chennai, Tiruvallur, Kanchipuram and Chengalpattu. According to the IMD, the cyclone may hit the Andhra Pradesh coast around Kakinada between Machilipatnam and Kalingapatnam by today evening. The cyclonic storm has now taken a severe form with maximum sustained wind speeds ranging from 90-100 kmph to 110 kmph.

Cyclone Montha: Heavy Rainfall Alert in States
The Chennai-based Regional Meteorological Centre said Cyclone Montha will affect coastal Andhra Pradesh. The IMD has put Chennai, Tiruvallur, Kancheepuram and Ranipet districts on orange alert, warning of heavy to very heavy rainfall at some places and thunderstorms accompanied by gusty winds of up to 60 kmph in some areas. The Chennai District Collector has declared a day’s holiday for all government and private schools in the city on Tuesday as a precautionary measure.
Relief Camp in Tamil Nadu: Over 200 Relief Centers Set Up
As the northeast monsoon intensifies in Tamil Nadu, the Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC) has prepared to address the challenges and risks of disease associated with the rains. To provide immediate assistance to residents of low-lying and flood-prone areas, 215 relief centers have been set up across the city. Each center provides essential amenities such as food, sanitation, and clean drinking water. A network of 106 central kitchens has been established to ensure food supply.

Municipal officials of the Greater Chennai Corporation have deployed pumps and field staff to prevent flooding and ensure smooth drainage. Meanwhile, fishermen have been advised not to venture into the sea due to bad weather and strong winds along the coast. Officials have urged residents of coastal and low-lying areas to stay indoors and avoid unnecessary travel. They have also been advised to avoid going near beaches, river banks, or open drains during the rains.
Cyclone News: Red alert issued due to Cyclone Montha
The IMD has issued a red alert for coastal Andhra Pradesh following the severe cyclone. Heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely at one or two places in Srikakulam, Parvatipuram Manyam, Vizianagaram, Visakhapatnam, Alluri Sitarama Raju, Anakapalli, Kakinada-Yanam, Dr. BR Ambedkar Konaseema, East Godavari, West Godavari, Eluru, NTR, Krishna, Guntur, Palnadu, Bapatla and Prakasam districts of coastal Andhra Pradesh.
