Cold Wave Alert in India: Bone-chilling cold is gripping North and Central India. Regarding today’s weather, dense fog and low clouds are present in the northern and some southern parts of the country. The Meteorological Department has issued a severe cold wave warning for the next two days in several states, including Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, and Rajasthan. Snowfall is also expected in the mountainous regions of Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, and Jammu and Kashmir.

In the national capital Delhi, dense fog amidst a severe cold wave has increased the difficulties for residents. According to the Meteorological Department, the cold and fog are likely to continue for the next few days. Cold winds blowing at a speed of about 19 kilometers per hour in Delhi could further intensify the feeling of cold. Today, the minimum temperature in Delhi was recorded at 4.3 degrees Celsius. Meanwhile, Delhi’s average AQI remained above 350.

Amidst the cold wave in Himachal Pradesh, the activation of a Western Disturbance is likely to bring rain and snowfall to most parts of the state from January 16 to 21. A warning of heavy rainfall has been issued for several parts of the state on January 19 and 20. A warning for dense fog and cold wave has also been issued for January 16. Late Thursday evening, snowfall occurred in the peaks of Lahaul and Manali, including the Shinkula Pass.

Uttarakhand: Orange Alert for Cold Wave

The mountainous regions of Uttarakhand are experiencing biting cold. According to the Meteorological Center, light rain is possible in some places in Pithoragarh, Chamoli, and Uttarkashi. Light snowfall is also possible in the higher reaches. The active Western Disturbance and snowfall in the mountainous regions will affect the temperature in the plains. An orange alert has also been issued for cold wave conditions in some places in Haridwar and Udham Singh Nagar.

Jammu and Kashmir: 0 Degree Celsius Temperature in Kashmir

The Kashmir Valley is experiencing very cold weather these days. The temperature is continuously dropping, and the effects of the cold wave are clearly visible. On Friday morning, the temperature in Srinagar was around or below 0 degrees Celsius. In many places, the temperature dropped below freezing. Visibility was also significantly reduced due to dense fog in the morning.

Cold Wave Warning: Cold wave warning issued for these states

Some areas of Punjab, Haryana, and Chandigarh will experience cold weather for the next two days. A cold wave will continue in isolated parts of Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, and Odisha on January 16th and 17th.
