BS VI Vehicles Banned in Delhi: As part of the Delhi government’s new measures to reduce air pollution in the national capital, the “No PUC, No Fuel” rule will come into effect from Thursday. Furthermore, only BS-6 compliant vehicles will be allowed to enter Delhi. The ban on trucks carrying construction material will continue. Construction work remains prohibited under GRAP regulations, and strict action will be taken against those who violate the rules.

Pollution has worsened the situation in the capital, prompting the Delhi government to announce a wide range of emergency and long-term measures targeting vehicular pollution, dust, garbage and traffic congestion. Earlier, Environment Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa said on Wednesday that the government was working on multiple fronts as people were exposed to the hazardous smog.

Addressing a press conference, Sirsa announced a complete overhaul of the Pollution Under Control Certificate (PUCC) system, introduction of third-party monitoring, a city-wide car-pooling app, integrated traffic management reforms and large-scale deployment of mechanised road-cleaning equipment.

He said the Delhi government is considering overhauling the system for issuing Pollution Under Control (PUC) certificates, as the existing centers are outdated and have several shortcomings. A third-party monitoring system will be introduced.

Delhi Pollution Crisis: Polluting vehicles will not get fuel

Sirsa said Wednesday was the last day for vehicle owners to obtain a valid PUC certificate. Starting Thursday, polluting vehicles will not be provided fuel. ANPR cameras, voice alerts at petrol pumps, and police deployments will ensure compliance. To enforce the fuel ban, 126 checkpoints have been set up in Delhi, including border points. Additionally, 580 police personnel and 37 Prakhar vans have been deployed.

The Transport Department’s enforcement team will be stationed at petrol pumps and border checkpoints. Appealing for cooperation, Sirsa said, “Delhi residents are requested not to argue with officials at petrol pumps, borders, or checkpoints. This step is for your health and the future of your children.”
