BHU Firing Incident: The campus of Banaras Hindu University (BHU) in Varanasi was once again shaken by the sound of gunfire. Unknown assailants opened fire on a student standing outside the hostel. The student narrowly escaped. Following this, the campus was thrown into chaos. The attackers fled the scene after committing the crime. This incident has also raised questions about the security arrangements on the university campus. Upon receiving the information, the Proctorial Board and a police team arrived at the scene. Police recovered four cartridge shells from the scene. Angered by this attack, students have staged a protest.

According to the victim, he was standing outside his hostel when some bikers arrived. “The attackers suddenly targeted the student and opened fire. Fortunately, the student escaped unhurt. The students reported that the attackers fired several rounds, and students present at the scene immediately recovered the empty shells and handed them over to the police.”

Students demanded the resignation of the Chief Proctor

Following this incident, students’ anger erupted in the hostel. A large number of students staged a sit-in protest and raised slogans against the university administration. They allege that the interference of outsiders on campus has increased, threatening their lives. They have demanded the resignation of the Chief Proctor. They say they will continue their protest until strict security measures are implemented and the Proctor resigns.

Kashi ADCP Vaibhav Bangar stated that at around 9:30 a.m., they received information about firing. Police personnel, the ACP, and I personally arrived at the scene. We inspected the scene. The students have also submitted their statements. Based on this, a case will be registered and further action will be taken.
