BHU Campus Violence: On Thursday, Two groups of student clashed with each-other at Banaras Hindu University, leading to major disturbance in the area. During this incident, students threw stones and used sticks and batons in the fight.
This major clash erupted between two groups of students at Banaras Hindu University (BHU) on late evening of 29th January. Students from BHU hostels confronted each other, leading to stone-pelting and a violent exchange of blows with sticks and rods. This entire campus was captured under chaos, and stampede-like situation also ensued. After receiving the information about the incident, police forces arrived at the area and attempted to control the situation.
On Thursday, It was also reported that around 4 PM, students went to Birla Hostel to beat up students from Ruiya Hostel. This situation lead to gather dozens of students from Ruiya Hostel and went to Birla Hostel, where an argument broke out. Creating dispute between two groups and escalating into a physical fight involving blows and stone-pelting.
BHU clash injures students; police and proctorial board step in
During this clash, a major violence erupted between two groups, with usage of sticks and batons. This climate of fear gripped the entire campus. Several students hid in the hostel rooms to save themselves from the conflict. Whereas some were injured during the violence, and one students was admitted to the BHU Trauma Centre.
After receiving information about the incident senior police officials and forces were deployed at the affected area to control the situation. Tensions remain high across the campus, while police administration is working to restore calm. On Friday, morning Proctorial Board also, arched through Banaras Hindu University campus.
BHU Campus Violence: Heavy police deployed on Campus
Police officials suspects the involvement of outsiders in the entire incident, after which university administration and forces from nearby police stations are conducting checks in various hostels on the campus. Hostels are being monitored using drones and large numbers of police have been deployed currently at Birla Hostel.
While checking is being conducted by BHU administration and police officers to crack down outsiders. DCP, ADCP and other security forces from several police stations are still present on campus. The police are also investigation why an old dispute escalated into a major conflict. Whereas they are trying to determine what’s the actual reason behind conspiracy.
