Train services in Upper Assam and other parts of the Northeast were severely affected due to a derailment and the discovery of elephant carcasses on the tracks. To minimise inconvenience to passengers, several trains passing through the affected section were diverted to alternative routes. Passengers travelling in the derailed train compartments were temporarily shifted to available vacant berths in other compartments of the same train. Railway officials stated that upon the train’s arrival in Guwahati, additional coaches would be added to accommodate all affected passengers, after which train would resume its onward journey.
