AAP Soars in Gujarat: Significant and clear shift is becoming apparent in Gujarat politics. In a state where BJP has dominated for three decades, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) is rapidly emerging as a strong alternative. Data from the “Pulse of Gujarat 2026” survey conducted by WeePreside and CIF indicates that Gujarat politics is now moving towards a BJP versus AAP dynamic, while the Congress party continues to weaken.

AAP Soars in Gujarat: AAP’s vote share hits 24.8% in Gujarat, Congress slumps to 17.3% – BJP still leads at 49.5%

According to the survey, Aam Aadmi Party’s vote share in Gujarat has reached 24.8 percent, while the Congress party’s vote share has fallen to 17.3 percent. This means that Aam Aadmi Party has now overtaken Congress to become the second-largest political party in Gujarat. BJP still leads with approximately 49.5 percent of the vote share, but it now faces a direct challenge from Aam Aadmi Party rather than Congress.

This change becomes even clearer when compared to the 2022 assembly elections. In 2022, the Congress received approximately 27 percent of the vote, which was already a significant drop from 40 percent it received in 2017. Now, three years later, Congress’s vote share has fallen by another 10 percent. Aam Aadmi Party, contesting the assembly elections for the first time in 2022, secured approximately 13 percent of vote share.

In just three years, Aam Aadmi Party’s vote share has almost doubled. This clearly indicates that the traditional Congress vote is shifting in large numbers towards Aam Aadmi Party.

Survey shows BJP still ahead, But AAP rapidly strengthening as main challenger ahead of 2027

Regional data also tells the same story. In areas like Saurashtra-Kutch, where BJP is expected to suffer some losses, Aam Aadmi Party is rapidly gaining ground. BJP still leads in North and Central Gujarat, but in urban and metropolitan areas, Aam Aadmi Party is receiving significantly more support than the Congress. In urban Gujarat, AAP is no longer seen as a second choice, but as a direct challenger.

Amidst this changing landscape, a large convention of Aam Aadmi Party workers was held in Ahmedabad. At this convention, the party’s national convener, Arvind Kejriwal, stated that fear has now been removed from the minds of people of Gujarat. Arvind Kejriwal clearly stated that there will be a change of power in Gujarat in 2027 and that Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) will bring about this change. He also said that there is no need to fear if more people are jailed, because this is a fight against injustice and the public will respond.

After three years of government, public mood seems to be shifting. Amidst mass cabinet resignations, unemployment, inflation, and questions surrounding governance, people are beginning to wonder who they can trust. This survey by WeePreside and CIF indicates that while BJP is currently ahead, its main challenge is no longer the weakening Congress party, but rapidly strengthening Aam Aadmi Party. Foundation for the 2027 assembly elections appears to be being laid right now.
