AAP Leaders Demand Impartial Bench: Arvind Kejriwal, Manish Sisodia and several other leaders of the Aam Aadmi Party have written to the Chief Justice of the Delhi High Court seeking the transfer of the excise policy case. In their letter, they requested that the matter be moved from the bench of Justice Swarna Kanta Sharma to another bench that they believe would ensure a fair and impartial hearing.
Allegations of Bias Against Justice Swarna Kanta Sharma
The AAP leaders alleged that Justice Swarna Kanta Sharma has demonstrated bias while hearing matters related to the excise policy case. According to them, several orders passed by her in connection with the case were later overturned by the Supreme Court of India, which they claim raises concerns about the handling of the case.
AAP Leaders Demand Impartial Bench
In the letter, the leaders argued that transferring the case to a different bench would help ensure fairness and maintain public trust in the judicial process. They stressed that justice must not only be done but must also be seen to be done, especially in high-profile cases involving elected leaders.
Background of the Excise Policy Case
The excise policy case has been one of the most prominent legal and political controversies in recent years, involving allegations related to the formulation and implementation of Delhi’s liquor policy.
