8th Pay Commission New Updates: There is positive news for central government employees as the 8th Pay Commission has now been formally set up. The Central Government has officially confirmed its constitution and stated that the Commission will submit its recommendations within the prescribed timeframe.

In a written response to queries raised in the Rajya Sabha on Tuesday, the Finance Ministry informed that the notification announcing the formation of the 8th Central Pay Commission was issued on November 3, 2025. Members of Parliament had sought clarification on the scope of the Commission’s review and the expected timeline for the implementation of its recommendations.

According to the government, the 8th Pay Commission has been tasked with a wide-ranging review of the salary structure, allowances, pension benefits, and overall service conditions of central government employees and pensioners. In other words, it will re-examine the entire compensation framework that impacts lakhs of employees and retirees across the country.

Minister of State for Finance Pankaj Chaudhary informed Parliament that the Commission has been given an 18-month deadline to submit its report. Going by this timeline, its recommendations are likely to be ready by 2027.

However, while the formation and mandate of the Commission have been clearly outlined, the government has so far remained silent on how and when the recommendations will actually be implemented. There is also no clarity yet on whether the rollout will be immediate or carried out in phases — a detail that employees and pensioners will be watching closely.

It’s worth noting that a nationwide strike by trade unions is scheduled for tomorrow, February 12th. Meanwhile, employee organizations have begun increasing pressure on the government regarding their demands. The Confederation of Central Government Employees and Workers (CCGEW) has announced its participation in the strike.

The union’s key demands include 20 percent interim relief, 50 percent integration of dearness allowance into the basic pay, and the abolition of the New Pension Scheme (NPS) and the restoration of the Old Pension Scheme (OPS). These demands have been a key issue for the CCGEW for some time. Amidst the growing questions raised in Parliament and the growing protests on the streets, the 8th Pay Commission process is under close scrutiny.
