Bihar all set to gain a sustainable energy source with first nuclear power plant
The Centre has agreed to set up the state's first nuclear power plant in Bihar. Union Power Minister, Manohar Lal Khattar made this announcement at the Energy Ministers' Conference in Patna on Tuesday. The move is likely to help Bihar gain a sustainable energy source, thousands of jobs and technological investment.
In order to meet the energy needs of Bihar, the central government has announced full help in setting up a nuclear power plant in the state. This paves the way for setting up of the first nuclear power plant in the state. Haryana Power Minister Manohar Lal Khattar said this while speaking to reporters after attending the Energy Ministers' Conference in Patna on Tuesday. He said that considering the energy needs of the country, the Central Government has taken a big decision. Now six small modular reactors will be set up in the country, out of which one reactor will be set up in Bihar. The central government is ready to provide all possible help to set up a nuclear plant in Bihar.
He said that during the conference, the Bihar government had demanded the establishment of a nuclear power plant in the state, which has been approved. If the Bihar government wants to set up a nuclear power plant, the central government is ready to fully cooperate, he said. To ensure energy security of the country, the government aims to set up at least one nuclear power plant in every state. As the country's growth rate is increasing, so is the demand for electricity. In such a situation, nuclear energy is a reliable, sustainable and sustainable option.
It is being told that with the establishment of small modular reactors in Bihar, the state is likely to get permanent energy sources, technical investment, thousands of jobs and new energy for industries. Urged states to expedite major reforms in the power sector—from prepaid smart meter rollout to timely capacity tie-ups, inter-state transmission through tariff-based competitive bidding and finalization of green energy corridors. He also stressed on the need to cut AT&C losses while focusing on operational efficiency and leverage the Centre's 50-year interest-free loan to improve financial viability of discoms, optimise power procurement and strengthen power infrastructure. Collaborative policymaking remains a top priority for building a reliable, secure and future-ready power ecosystem for the eastern region.
