BJP'S Satya Sharma won MCD Standing Committee Polls
In the election to the Standing Committee of Municipal Corporation of Delhi, BJP's Satya Sharma won the post of Speaker, while Sunder Singh became the Vice President. All 18 members cast their votes in the election which was held under the supervision of Mayor Raja Iqbal Singh. The newly-elected Speaker appealed to all parties to cooperate for the development of Delhi.
New Delhi: Elections to the Standing Committee of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) were held on Thursday. Satya Sharma of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) won as the chairperson of the standing committee by securing 11 votes.
His rival Praveen Kumar of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) got seven votes. BJP's Sundar Singh won the vice-president's post by defeating AAP's Mohini Jinwal. Sundar Singh got 11 votes and Mohini Jinwal got seven votes. All 18 members of the Standing Committee cast their votes.
Satya Sharma appointed as Chairman of Standing Committee
The election process was supervised by Mayor Raja Iqbal Singh as the presiding officer. Congratulating the newly-elected Speaker Satya Sharma and Vice President Sundar Singh, the Mayor said, "With the formation of the Standing Committee, we all together will set new dimensions of development of Delhi.I hope the members of the committee will work unitedly for the development of the city." After the election, Satya Sharma expressed his gratitude to all the members and supporters.
Emphasis on development work in Delhi
"In the last two-and-a-half years, development work in Delhi was stalled, but now we will speed up work in positive direction," he said. Our aim is to make Delhi clean, beautiful and prosperous. We appeal to all parties to cooperate in this direction. Improving infrastructure and civic amenities is a challenge for all of us and we hope we succeed in it.
A two-minute silence was observed at the meeting to pay tribute to the victims of Thursday's plane crash in Ahmedabad, Gujarat. Expressing grief over the incident, Sharma said, "This accident is unfortunate. We express our condolences to those who lost their lives in the plane crash. Pray to God to give them all a place at his feet.
