IndiGo CEO hails India's Aviation boom as 'Beautiful Opportunity'
IndiGo CEO Peter Elbers has described India as a land of immense potential in the aviation sector. He said India's size and potential make it a "beautiful opportunity", which is more developing than China. He thanked Prime Minister Modi and the Government of India for their support.
New Delhi: On Tuesday, IndiGo's CEO, Peter Elbers, remarked that India's aviation sector offers substantial growth opportunities in domestic and international arenas. He highlighted that India's scale and future outlook present a 'beautiful opportunity,' especially when compared to China, which saw remarkable increases in aircraft and passenger numbers ten years ago.
While addressing reporters in New Delhi, IndiGo's CEO remarked, "China has witnessed significant advancements in both the number of aircraft and passenger growth. Similar to the progress seen there a decade ago, we are now observing substantial development in India as it experiences its own period of growth."
Peter Elbers said the larger message of this AGM was that it was "India's time". "The bigger message from this AGM is that this is India's time, and India's size, potential and opportunity is a beautiful opportunity to showcase this to the rest of the world," Elbers told reporters in the national capital.
India hosted its last AGM 42 years ago in 1983, drawing over 1,600 attendees, which included leading figures from the global aviation sector, government officials, and members of the international press. The CEO of IndiGo expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Indian government for their ongoing support.
He stated that the backing from the Government of India, along with a firm commitment demonstrated through actions and the Prime Minister's vision, has effectively showcased this to the global audience. Additionally, IndiGo's CEO highlighted the significant expansion in Indian domestic markets and noted the substantial opportunities available in the international market.

Willy Walsh, Director General, IATA, also thanked Prime Minister Modi, saying: "I think it's very exciting. I was honoured to meet the Hon'ble Prime Minister. I think he was ready to participate in the AGM, it has strengthened his and the Indian government's vision of developing the industry here. It's very exciting; It was great to hear him speak firsthand about where he sees the industry evolving in the future. "
