By Wednesday morning, the tally of active cases has risen to 1,047 nationwide. Maharashtra has reported 66 new cases, while Uttar Pradesh has identified 10 new patients.
Media reports indicate that the COVID-19 death toll has now reached 11. In response to this escalating situation, several states have begun implementing precautionary measures and hospitals have been provided with guidelines.
Highest number of cases in Mumbai
The Health Ministry's data up to May 26 showed 1010 active cases nationwide, which has now risen to 1047. Maharashtra reported 66 new cases, with 31 originating from Mumbai alone, bringing the total active cases to 325. Due to the circumstances in Mumbai, preparations have been ramped up, including the establishment of a 15-bed isolation ward at JJ Hospital.
Cases also increased in Uttar Pradesh
The number of Covid cases in Uttar Pradesh is rising steadily. On May 26, there were 15 active cases, which have now grown to 25. Ghaziabad has experienced a surge in cases, with 14 individuals infected with the coronavirus. Of these, 13 are isolating at home, while one is hospitalized. Alarmingly, a four-month-old baby is among those infected. The state government has issued warnings to hospitals.
Covid returns to Rajasthan
The coronavirus has resurfaced in Rajasthan, with seven new cases reported in the state over the past few days. The infection has been detected in Jodhpur as well, where several individuals, including a newborn, have tested positive for Covid.
