The Uttar Pradesh Anti-Terrorism Squad has detained a man suspected of being a Pakistani spy, who was involved in smuggling goods across the India-Pakistan border, reportedly collaborating with the Pakistani intelligence agency, an official stated on Sunday. The ATS revealed that the suspect, named Shahzad from Moradabad, had unlawfully transported cosmetics, clothing, spices, and various other goods across the border. He allegedly worked for the Pakistani intelligence agency ISI under the pretense of smuggling.

The Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) reported that Shahzad maintained a strong connection with ISI operatives, frequently communicating with them. Shahzad had disclosed sensitive information concerning India's security to these ISI agents. Following verification of this information, a First Information Report (FIR) was filed under sections 148 and 152 at ATS Lucknow.

Shahzad was apprehended on May 19 by the Uttar Pradesh ATS in Moradabad and is being presented in court according to regulations, with additional legal proceedings underway.

The ATS also mentioned that Shahzad provided financial support to ISI agents operating in India. Furthermore, he facilitated the movement of individuals from Rampur district and various parts of Uttar Pradesh to Pakistan to work for the ISI under the pretense of smuggling.

The ISI facilitated the acquisition of visas for these individuals. Shahzad also supplied Indian SIM cards to ISI operatives for espionage activities against India. Haryana's Director General of Police (DGP), Shatrujeet Kapoor, stated that several arrests have been made in Haryana for spying in favor of Pakistan.

He attributed the action to increased vigilance and monitoring throughout the state. During a press conference, Shatrujeet Kapoor mentioned that these apprehensions occurred following Operation Sindoor, which targeted anti-national actors in various districts of Haryana.
