Jamia Millia Islamia has suspended all MoUs with Turkish educational institutions, as Turkey has supported Pakistan. The decision comes after Jawaharlal Nehru University terminated agreements with Turkey. India's higher education institutions are reacting against Turkey.
The growing tension between India and Pakistan has taken a new turn. In fact, Turkey's support in the war with Pakistan has come to the fore. Due to this support, there is a demand to end trade relations with Turkey across the country. Meanwhile, Jamia Millia Islamia has suspended all Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with educational institutions of Turkey. Professor Saima Saeed, PRO of Jamia Millia Islamia, said, "We have suspended all MoUs with institutions affiliated to Turkey. Jamia Millia Islamia stands with the Government of India and the Government of India. The development comes after Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) terminated its academic agreement with Innonu University in Malatya, Turkey due to national security concerns.
JNU breaks ties with Turkey
JNU Vice-Chancellor Shantishree Dhulipudi Pandit also criticised Turkey for supporting Pakistan, saying that Turkey has openly supported Pakistan and this cannot be ignored. The MoU signed with Innonu University in Malatya, Turkey, on February 3, 2025, was fixed till 2028. But Turkey's support for Pakistan has ended the educational agreement.
India's higher education institutions are not the only ones responding. The wider public has also launched an unofficial boycott campaign against Turkey and Azerbaijan, both of whom have been accused of supporting Pakistan diplomatically and militarily. In this attack, Turkey supplied many modern military technology including drones to Pakistan.
