After the growing tension between India and Pakistan, a ceasefire has now been announced. But in the meantime, the BSF soldier had inadvertently crossed over to Pakistan while patrolling on April 23 and was taken into custody by Pakistan. Today, BSF jawan Purnam Kumar has returned to India from Pakistan after almost 24 days. After showing strictness from India, the BSF soldier has been sent to India from the Attari-Wagah border.

PAK in custody since 23 April 2025

Constable Purnam Kumar Shaw had mistakenly crossed over to the Pakistan border while on operational duty in the area of Ferozepur sector on April 23, 2025, and was taken into custody by the Pakistan Rangers. Regular flag meetings with Pakistan Rangers and consistent efforts of BSF through other communication channels have made the return of BSF Constable possible.

BSF personnel deployed at LOC

The BSF is the primary force guarding the 3,323-km-long India-Pakistan border spread across the states of Punjab, Rajasthan and Gujarat, including parts of Jammu and Kashmir and the LoC. This border is one of the most sensitive and volatile borders of the country due to tensions between India and Pakistan and the current security challenges.
