India cuts Diplomatic Ties, Halts Sindhu Water Treaty after Pahalgam Terror Attack

In a recent press conference hosted by the Ministry of External Affairs, the Indian government announced a series of strict actions in response to the recent terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir. After a high-level meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS), India decided to implement various retaliatory measures against Pakistan, including halting the Sindhu Water Treaty, canceling visas for Pakistani nationals, and reducing the staff at the Pakistani High Commission. The press conference, held earlier today by the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), detailed the steps India is taking in retaliation for the deadly attack in Pahalgam, which resulted in the deaths of 26 tourists.

India has chosen to suspend its involvement in the Sindhu Water Treaty, a 1960 pact between India and Pakistan that regulates the distribution of water from the Indus River system. The Indian government has declared that it will revoke all current visas held by Pakistani citizens. Additionally, all Pakistanis presently in India must depart within the next 48 hours.

India has ordered a substantial reduction in the number of Pakistani diplomats within its territory. The Pakistani High Commission in New Delhi will have its staff decreased to 30 from the current 110. India has declared the shutdown of the Atari border, a significant land crossing between India and Pakistan.
