Haryana CM Khattar reviews Arun-3 Hydropower project in Nepal
Indian Minister of Energy and Housing Affairs Manohar Lal Khattar visited the Arun-III hydroelectric project being built with Indian assistance during his official visit to Nepal. On the first day of his visit, Minister Khattar accompanied his Nepalese counterpart, Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation Minister Deepak Khadka, to Sankhuwasabha district, where work on the project is underway. "Hon'ble Minister of Power and Housing Affairs, Shri Manohar Lal @mlkhattar and Hon'ble Minister for Power, Water Resources and Irrigation, Shri Deepak Khadka @DKhadka1975 jointly visited the 900 MW Arun-3 hydroelectric project being developed by @SjvnLimited," the Indian Embassy in Kathmandu tweeted. He reviewed the progress, discussed ways to overcome obstacles and launched electromechanical works at the powerhouse. "
Khattar arrived in Kathmandu on the invitation of Nepalese Minister of Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation Deepak Khadka. During his visit to India on February 12, 2025, Minister Khadka extended an invitation to Indian Power Minister Khattar to visit Nepal. Khattar is scheduled to inspect the Arun-3 hydroelectric project built by SJVN Arun-3 Power Development Company (SAPDC), which is owned by Indian company Satluj Jal Vidyut Nigam (SJVN). The Indian minister will inspect the power house and dam area of the Arun-3 hydroelectric project.
Minister for Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation Khadka will also visit Arun-3. SJVN is presently constructing 900 MW Arun-3 hydroelectric project in Sankhuvabha district. Most of the structural work of the project has reached the final stage. The company is working with the aim of early completion of the project. Similarly, SAPDC, a subsidiary of SJVN, is also constructing the 669 MW Lower Arun Hydroelectric Project.
Similarly, Minister Khadka and Indian Minister Khattar will jointly inaugurate the Inaruwa-Basantpur-Baneshwar-Tumlingtar 200 KV transmission line and 220/133/33 KV Tumlingtar substation, 220/33 KV Baneshwar substation and 220/133/33 KV Basantpur substation under the Koshi Corridor 220 KV 220 KV Transmission Line constructed with the support of the Government of India at Tumlingtar in Sankhuwasabha.
The two ministers will also sign an agreement for the transmission line to be jointly invested by the two countries and take forward the construction process. Khattar is scheduled to discuss Indian investment in new projects along with other hydropower projects with Minister Khadka. On April 23, Minister Khattar is scheduled to visit the holy Muktinath temple in Mustang by Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, as well as Deputy Prime Ministers and other senior ministers in attendance.
