Walmart is expanding its presence in India by setting up its second Global Capability Center (GCC) in Chennai. The company has leased 465,000 square feet of office space in the International Tech Park Chennai (ITPC) for teams working on data engineering, AI, cloud computing, and cybersecurity. The move complements Walmart's existing GCC in Bengaluru and strengthens India's role as a major innovation hub for the retail giant.

The Chennai facility will house 4,500 employees and is expected to augment Walmart's global tech operations. The lease agreement is for five years, with a monthly rent of ₹3.26 crore and includes an annual 4% rent increase.

Walmart's Bengaluru Global Capability Centre (GCC) is a key hub for its global technology operations. The company leased 1 million square feet of office space from Prestige Group to set up this center. Bengaluru GCC focuses on AI, data engineering, cybersecurity, and cloud computing, supporting Walmart's retail and e-commerce ecosystem.

The centre plays a key role in supply chain optimization, customer experience enhancement, and operational efficiency through advanced AI models. Walmart has also partnered with the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) and IIT Madras to promote innovation in AI and machine learning. India's GCC market is estimated to reach $99-105 billion, with over 2.4 million professionals employed across more than 1,800 centres, marking a 17% year-on-year workforce growth.
