Keshav Prasad Maurya criticizes Congress over National Herald case
Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya launched a scathing attack on the Congress party, saying they were "acting like slaves of the Gandhi family". He said that there is huge corruption in the National Herald case, whose investigation was started during the Congress regime; Therefore, all agencies should be allowed to work freely. Speaking to the media, Maurya said, "The Congress party is acting like slaves of the Gandhi family. The Constitution is the same for all 140 crore people of the country. There was a huge scam in the National Herald case, there was a huge corruption, whose investigation started during the Congress government's tenure. Investigative agencies should be allowed to do their work. "
The Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Tuesday filed a prosecution complaint against top Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and Sonia Gandhi in connection with the National Herald money laundering case. The chargesheet also names Congress leaders Sam Pitroda, Suman Dubey and several firms among others. The matter has been listed for arguments on April 25 in the Delhi Rouse Avenue Court.
The prosecution complaint has been filed for the offence of money laundering under Sections 44 and 45 of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), 2002, as defined under Section 3, read with Section 70, and punishable under Section 4 of the PMLA, 2002. Earlier today, the Congress party staged a massive protest against the central government and investigating agencies. The protest comes after the ED filed a chargesheet against Congress leaders Rahul and Sonia Gandhi in connection with the National Herald.
Protests have been held across the country, with several prominent leaders at the forefront. In Delhi, some Congress leaders were detained by the Delhi Police as they tried to break the security cordon near the Congress office. Congress leader Amit Chavda on Wednesday criticised the Enforcement Directorate's (ED) prosecution complaint against party leaders Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi in the National Herald money laundering case, calling it a politically motivated move aimed at diverting people's attention from key national issues.
Party MP Imran Pratapgarhi alleged that the ED action was being taken because the BJP was sensing defeat in the upcoming elections in Bihar and Assam. "The agency through which the fight has been taken to court is intended only to harass the opposition. In Gujarat, a session is held, Rahul Gandhi reaches Modasa and a charge sheet is filed here. You understand the chronology. In view of the upcoming Bihar elections, the activism of the Congress in Gujarat, its possible defeat in the upcoming Assam elections and the vigilance of the opposition, the BJP wants to crush the opposition completely... But the BJP forgets that it is the Gandhi family that has made many sacrifices for the country... The Congress is protesting all over the country. "
